This Decision requests CEN and CENELEC to develop specific standards covering machinery products, however, in case of Cyber-safety, taking into account the horizontal provisions of the proposed Cyber Resilience Act. This helps to achieve a coherent cybersecurity framework across the European market, avoiding duplication of efforts for specific product categories and facilitating compliance under both Acts, wherever products covered by the Machinery Regulation are also covered by the proposed Cyber Resilience Act. Following the risk-based approach, manufacturers of machinery products should carry out a risk assessment considering the relevant cybersecurity risks, which in the case of the Machinery Regulation refer to risk to health and safety. In this way, it is possible to tailor the harmonised standards addressing the essential requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act also to fit those of the Machinery Regulation. This synergy should therefore be emphasised in this request.
