Information on the recommended application of IEC 62061 and this part of ISO 13849
The IEC 62061 and this part of ISO 13849 set down requirements for the design and implementation of safety-control systems of machinery. The user of one of the two standards can accept, in accordance with its application, to comply with the relevant and necessary safety requirements. The following table summarizes the application of IEC 62061 and this part of ISO 13849.
Table 1 - Recommended application of IEC 62061 and ISO 13849-1
Technology for the implementation of the safety control function(s) | ISO 13849-1 | IEC 62061
A | Not electric, e.g. hydraulic | X | Not included |
B | Electromechanical, e.g. Relay and / or not complex electronics | Limited to the designated Architectures and up to PL = e | All architectures and up to SIL 3 |
C | Complex electronics, for example programmable | Limited to the designated Architectures and up to PL = d | All architectures and up to SIL 3 |
D | A combined with B | Limited to the designated Architectures and up to PL = e | Xc |
E | C combined with B | Limited to the designated Architectures and up to PL = d | All architectures and up to SIL 3 |
F | C combined with A, or C combined with A and B | Xb | Xc |
X | Shows that this character is treated in the standard of the corresponding table header
a | To allow a simple method for calculating the performance level, designated architectures are described in 6.2.
b | For complex electronics: Using the designated architecture for this part of ISO 13849 to PL = d or any architecture to IEC 62061.
c | For non-electric technology, use of the parts according to this section of ISO 13849 as subsystems. |
